Here's a timeline of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's life :
- 1931 - Born in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.
- 1954 - Graduated from Saint Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli with a Physics Degree.
- 1955 - Moved to Madras to study aerospace engineering in Madras Institute of Technology
- 1960 - Kalam joined the Aeronautical Development Establishment of the Defence Research and Development Organisation.
- 1969 - Transferred to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) where he was the project director of India's first Satellite Launch Vehicle
- 1974 - He was invited to witness India's first nuclear test Smiling Buddha as the representative of TBRL.
- 1981 - Honoured with Padma Bhushan.
- 1990 - Honoured with Padma Vibhushan.
- 1992 - Kalam served as the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister and Secretary of the Defence Research and Development Organisation.(till 1999)
- 1998 - Along with cardiologist Soma Raju, Kalam developed a low cost coronary stent, named the "Kalam-Raju Stent".
- 2002 - Won the presidential Election , Served as the 11th President of India.(till 2007)
- 2012 - Again in collaboration with Soma Raju, he designed a rugged tablet computer for health care in rural areas, which was named the "Kalam-Raju Tablet"
- 2015 - Died at age 83, from apparent cardiac Arrest.
